The Hong Kong Applied Science and Technology Research Institute (ASTRI) was founded by the Government of the Hong Kong Special Administrative Region in 2000 with the mission of enhancing Hong Kong’s competitiveness through applied research. ASTRI’s core R&D competence in various areas is grouped under five Technology Divisions: Communications Technologies, Artificial Intelligence and Trust Technologies, Advanced Electronic Components and Systems, IoT Sensing and AI Technologies, and Innovative Mind.
It is applied across six core areas which are Smart City, Financial Technologies, New Industrialisation and Intelligent Manufacturing, Digital Health, Application Specific Integrated Circuits, and Metaverse.
Over the years, ASTRI has nurtured a pool of research, I&T talents and received numerous international awards for its pioneering innovations as well as outstanding business and community contributions.
To date, ASTRI has transferred almost 1400 technologies to the industries and been granted more than 1000 patents in the Mainland, the US, and other countries.
Job Responsibilities:

Conduct research in smart mobility related areas, analyze industry, define requirements, specifications, and innovative design to contribute to ASTRI's smart mobility solution and software system

Perform research on the latest industry developments, including V2X, CAV, autonomous transportation, AI, simulation, low altitude economy, etc. with the objective of deploying commercial trials and rollouts in the market in partnership with industry leaders in this area
- Perform ad-hoc duties as assigned
- Research and build up know-how and hands-on experience in one of the following 4 areas:
- Solution Research
- Conduct smart mobility industry analysis, including laws and regulations, policies, standards, industry chains, products and solutions, users, etc., and output analysis reports
- Plan short, medium, and long-term solutions
- Responsible for requirement analysis, output solution documents, continuously optimize solutions, and clearly convey all values of the solutions
- Responsible for project application, proposal communication, customer research and other related activities
- Responsible for project requirements analysis, timeline control, quality control communication, risk assessment, procurement evaluation, progress report, etc.
- Data Visualization & Communication
- Responsible for conducting research on visualization requirements in the smart mobility industry
- Develop plans, organizing teams to calculate, analyze, and visualize data, abstracting core business requirements
- Organize and design data indicator systems, familiarizing oneself with analysis and data decision-making models, and assisting in decision-making
- Understand and gain insights into the industry knowledge system, collaborate with architecture and strategic planning, and promote effective and feasible implementation plans
- User Experience (UX) design
- Participate in the user experience design work of the product, mainly responsible for the interaction design process, analyze product requirements, explore typical user scenarios, design user behavior and product interaction information framework
- Responsible for designing the interactive information architecture and task flow of the project product, ensuring the usability and ease of use of the product, and taking responsibility for the final product experience and effectiveness
- Initiate and participate in user research, optimize design solutions based on research results
- Responsible for product usability testing and evaluation, propose improvement plans, and continuously optimize the user experience of the product
- AI
- Autonomous transportation intelligent perception (including multi-modal sensor fusion, object tracking, event detection, etc.)
- Data-driven autonomous transportation / traffic simulation
- Behavior modelling and cognitive AI in autonomous transportation systems
- Design and implementation of new patents in autonomous transportation related area
- Solution Research
Job Requirements:
- Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in engineering-related discipline, with minimum 3 years of related experience preferred. Candidates with less experience may also be considered. Excellent candidates from other majors can also be considered.
- Familiar with the latest development of smart mobility industry
- Excellent communication and document writing skills, proficient in using Microsoft office software suite, strong desire, passionate and proactive in driving work from start to completion, attention to details, and good at cooperation
- Excellent English proficiency, with priority given to those who have achieved excellent scores in English Test Band 6 and IELTS or TOEFL. Cantonese speaker is welcome.
- For applying the Solution Research opening, candidates are expected to have excellent communication skills and teamwork skills, as well as excellent ability to perceive and analyze requirements, create proposal documents and deliver speeches. Strong project driving ability, able to coordinate resources from all parties, control project risks and changes, ensure timely and high-quality project delivery, and have good risk control and identification capabilities; Possess excellent communication, organizational, and coordination skills, able to efficiently coordinate cross team communication and collaboration, and strong execution ability
- For applying the Data Visualization & Communication opening, candidates are expected to be familiar with data visualization, data analysis and mining, machine learning and related industries, with excellent skills; Show business abstraction and product architecture planning capabilities; Excellent goal coordination skills; Experience in visualizing industry competitions and publishing papers is preferred; Having good self-motivation, communication skills, and logical thinking abilities, able to drive team progress
- For applying the User Experience (UX) Design opening, candidates are expected to have a profound understanding of the relevant theories, design methods, processes, etc. of user experience design, proficient in user research, possess professional knowledge and skills related to interaction design, and be able to proficiently use design tools to clearly and intuitively express design intentions; Proficient in using relevant design tools to output wireframes, task processes, product prototypes, etc. Candidates with programming skills or cloud computing knowledge are preferred. Candidates with experience in toB product interaction design and successful cases are preferred.
- For applying the AI opening, candidates are expected to have sound knowledge and understanding in principles of machine-leaning, including neural networks, optimization methods, and statistical methods. Experience with one of the following programming languages: C++/C/Java/Python will be given priority.

The appointment will be on renewable contract terms with a competitive salary and performance-linked variable pay. Fringe benefits include paid leave, medical, insurance coverage and contribution to social insurance. The incumbent will normally work a five-day week.
