Senior Engineer/ Engineer/ Engineering Associate (PI), FinTech Software Development

The Hong Kong Applied Science and Technology Research Institute (ASTRI) was founded by the Government of the Hong Kong Special Administrative Region in 2000 with the mission of enhancing Hong Kong’s competitiveness through applied research. ASTRI’s core R&D competence in various areas is grouped under five Technology Divisions: Communications Technologies, Artificial Intelligence and Trust Technologies, Advanced Electronic Components and Systems, IoT Sensing and AI Technologies, and Innovative Mind.

It is applied across six core areas which are Smart City, Financial Technologies, New Industrialisation and Intelligent Manufacturing, Digital Health, Application Specific Integrated Circuits, and Metaverse.

Over the years, ASTRI has nurtured a pool of research, I&T talents and received numerous international awards for its pioneering innovations as well as outstanding business and community contributions. To date, ASTRI has transferred almost 1,500 technologies to the industries and been granted more than 1,100 patents in the Mainland, the US, and other countries.

To support our constant endeavour to position Hong Kong as a world-class smart city and an international hub of innovation and technology, we are seeking qualified professionals to fill the following position(s):

Job Responsibilities:

• Assist in ITF R&D project as assigned.
• Research and develop algorithms and software for emerging technologies related to artificial intelligence (AI), cryptography, and secured systems including blockchains.
• Explore and evaluate state-of-the-art AI models and develop working prototypes including data preparation, model development and performance validation.
• Collaborate with team members throughout the full product development and testing lifecycle.
• Conduct software testing and write and maintain technical documentation and reports.
• Perform ad hoc duties as assigned.

Job Requirements:

• Bachelor’s degree or higher in STEM-related disciplines (e.g., Computer Science, Electronic Engineering, Information Engineering, Physics, or other relevant disciplines).
• Experience or strong knowledge in one or more programming languages: Python, Kotlin, Java, JavaScript, NodeJS, Solidity, Go, Rust, C++, C, or R.
• Familiarity with data science, machine learning techniques (e.g. self-supervised learning, reinforcement learning) and frameworks such as PyTorch or Keras is a plus.

• Experience in research of generative models (e.g. transformers, diffusion models, VAE/GAN) is a plus.

• Experience with fine-tuning and deploying large language models is a plus.
• Knowledge of cryptographic principles, blockchain technologies, and system security practices (e.g., sandboxing, secure containerization, and runtime security measures) is a plus.
• Familiarity with back-end frameworks (e.g., Spring Boot, Django, Flask, FastAPI) and front-end frameworks (e.g., React, Vue.js, Angular, Flutter) is a plus.
• Understanding of finance or economics is a plus.
• Enthusiasm for learning new technologies and applying them to real-world problems.

The appointment will be on renewable contract terms with a competitive salary. Fringe benefits include paid leave, medical insurance coverage and contribution to MPF. The incumbent will normally work a five-day week.
