Senior Engineer (PI) / Engineer (PI) / Engineering Associate (PI), 5G Core Development

Hong Kong Applied Science and Technology Research Institute (ASTRI) was founded by the Government of the Hong Kong Special Administrative Region in 2000 with the mission of enhancing Hong Kong’s competitiveness through applied research.

ASTRI’s core R&D competence in various areas is grouped under five Technology Divisions: Advanced Electronic Components and Systems; Artificial Intelligence and Trust Technologies; Communications Technologies; IoT Sensing and AI Technologies; and Intelligent Perception and Control Technologies.

It is applied across six core areas which are Smart City, Financial Technologies, New Industrialisation and Intelligent Manufacturing, Digital Health, Application Specific Integrated Circuits and Metaverse.

Over the years, ASTRI has nurtured a pool of research, I&T talents and received numerous international awards for its pioneering innovations as well as outstanding business and community contributions.

As of 2023/24, ASTRI has transferred more than 1,500 technologies to the industry and has been granted over 1,100 patents in the Mainland, the US, and other countries.

To support our constant endeavour to position Hong Kong as a world-class smart city and an international hub of innovation and technology, we are seeking qualified professionals to fill the following position(s):

Job Responsibilities:

• Support R&D in 5G core network, edge computing system, 5G applications integration, Operation Technology (OT) applications integration.
• Build and execute 5G end-to-end system integration, inter-operability testing, verifications, performance testing and tuning on 5G system (5G features, such as Time-Sensitive Networking (TSN), Mobile Edge Computing (MEC), Network Slicing, Cloud Native 5GC, IP Multimedia Subsystem (IMS), …)
• Develop hands on experience and know-hows in cloud based technologies (e.g. Docker, Kubernetes, ELK, Kafka, Redis, gRPC)
• Develop responsive and user-friendly web interfaces for 5G management systems using HTML5, CSS3, and JavaScript frameworks such as React, Angular, or Vue.js
• Design and develop high-performance, scalable, and reliable C/C++ code for 5G core network functions.
• Work closely with other software developers, system architects, and network engineers to ensure the interoperability and performance of the 5G core network functions.
• Develop and maintain unit tests and automated test suites to ensure the quality and robustness of the code.
• Troubleshoot and resolve software defects and performance issues in a timely manner.
• Communicate and support customers for commercialization

Job Requirements:

• Graduate with a Bachelor’s, Master or a PhD degree in STEM-related disciplines such as Computer Science, Electronic Engineering, Information Engineering and Mathematics or relevant disciplines is welcome to apply
• Familiar with cloud-based technologies (e.g., Docker, Kubernetes, ELK, Kafka, Redis, gRPC) is a plus
• Experience with one or more of the program languages: C/C++, Golang, Python, Java, Shell Scripting, etc.
• Experience in web development (e.g., React.js, JavaScript, CSS etc.) is a plus
• Good command of written and spoken English or Chinese
• Self-motivated and good communication skills
• Good command of both written/spoken English and Chinese (including Putonghua)

The appointment will be on renewable contract terms with a competitive salary. Fringe benefits include paid leave, medical insurance coverage and contribution to MPF. The incumbent will normally work a five-day week.
