The Hong Kong Applied Science and Technology Research Institute (ASTRI) was founded by the Government of the Hong Kong Special Administrative Region in 2000 with the mission of enhancing Hong Kong’s competitiveness through applied research. ASTRI’s core R&D competence in various areas is grouped under four Technology Divisions: Communications Technologies, Trust and AI Technologies, Integrated Circuits and Systems, and IoT Sensing and AI Technologies.
It is applied across six core areas which are Smart City, Financial Technologies, New Industrialisation and Intelligent Manufacturing, Digital Health, Application Specific Integrated Circuits, and Metaverse.
Over the years, ASTRI has nurtured a pool of research, I&T talents and received numerous international awards for its pioneering innovations as well as outstanding business and community contributions. To date, ASTRI has transferred almost 1400 technologies to the industries and been granted more than 1000 patents in the Mainland, the US, and other countries.
To support our constant endeavour to position Hong Kong as a world-class smart city and an international hub of innovation and technology, we are seeking qualified professionals to fill the following position(s):
Job Responsibilities

Assist in ITF R&D project as assigned
-
Responsible for technical research and product implementation of visual SLAM algorithms based on monocular, binocular cameras, or multi-sensor fusion (IMU/GPS/LIDAR).

Participate in the research and development of indoor/outdoor large-scene SLAM map construction and simultaneous localization.

Research and develop cutting-edge technologies in the fields of robotics and SLAM.
Requirements

Graduate in STEM-related discipline such as Computer Science, Electronic Engineering, Information Engineering, Mathematics, or relevant discipline

A bachelor’s degree, master’s degree or a doctoral degree’s holder is welcome to apply

For bachelor’s degree holder, they will be considered for the position of Engineering Associate (PI)

Proficient in C/C++ programming and familiar with Linux system.

Familiar with at least one deep learning framework, such as Caffe/TensorFlow/PyTorch
-
Experience/knowledge in large scale Deep Learning and Pattern Recognition

Experience/knowledge in software development on embedded platform
-
Familiarity with OpenCV
-
Experience in vision based metrology
-
Experience in event based camera development is a plus.

Passion on cutting edge computer vision/machine learning technologies and product delivery

Good command of written and spoken English or Chinese

Self-motivated and good communication skills

The appointment will be on renewable contract terms with a competitive salary. Fringe benefits include paid leave, medical insurance coverage and contribution to MPF. The incumbent will normally work a five-day week.
