Manager, IT System Administration

The Hong Kong Applied Science and Technology Research Institute (ASTRI) was founded by the Government of the Hong Kong Special Administrative Region in 2000 with the mission of enhancing Hong Kong’s competitiveness through applied research. ASTRI’s core R&D competence in various areas is grouped under five Technology Divisions: Communications Technologies, Artificial Intelligence and Trust Technologies, Advanced Electronic Components and Systems, IoT Sensing and AI Technologies, and Innovative Mind.


It is applied across six core areas which are Smart City, Financial Technologies, New Industrialisation and Intelligent Manufacturing, Digital Health, Application Specific Integrated Circuits, and Metaverse.

Over the years, ASTRI has nurtured a pool of research, I&T talents and received numerous international awards for its pioneering innovations as well as outstanding business and community contributions. To date, ASTRI has transferred almost 1,500 technologies to the industries and been granted more than 1,100 patents in the Mainland, the US, and other countries.

To support our constant endeavour to position Hong Kong as a world-class smart city and an international hub of innovation and technology, we are seeking qualified professionals to fill the following position(s):

Job Responsibilities

 

  • Set up and configure virtual machines, storage, and networking resources required to support cloud-based applications. Monitor performance to ensure maximum uptime and minimal downtime
  • Design, enhance and maintain the infrastructure architecture, to ensure the scalability and consistent growth of the environment;
  • Assist in system infrastructure design and work closely with the development team to build and maintain a high and resilience infrastructure environment;
  • Research and propose solutions to improving the business's productivity;
  • Develop and maintain documentation of infrastructure that consist of standards, processes, and policies;
  • Perform routine maintenance, setup, configuration, backup, and patching on the infrastructure architecture.
  • Provide troubleshooting service, analyze system logs identify potential issues in infrastructure architecture and support users;
  • Utilize tools like Azure Portal, Azure PowerShell, and Azure CLI to manage Azure resources effectively. Configure virtual networks, storage accounts, and other components
  • Server room with DR sites maintenance and management. Prepare and run DR drills and documentation.
  • Assist in internal and external audit process.
  • Any other duties assigned by the supervisor.

 

Job Requirements

 

  • Degree holder or above in Information Technology.
  • A minimum of 6 years' experience in a similar role is required;
  • Hands-on experience in Microsoft Active Directory, Group Policy Objects (GPOs), Microsoft Exchange, M365, WSUS / SCCM, Azure, Hyperconverged Infrastructure, and VM virtualization products
  • Proven experience in information system security, system administration, and monitoring, as well as familiarity with Windows PowerShell and Azure CLI, is highly preferred.
  • Exposure in the entire infrastructure life cycle includes design, configuration, patch update, monitoring, and maintenance.
  • Handle system installation, upgrade, configuration, administration, troubleshooting, patching, and monitoring of information systems
  • Solid experience in installation, maintenance, and support of Linux, Wintel, and Web infrastructure
  • Familiarity with server hardening, process automation, and RPA practices is recommended.
  • IT security-related experiences are definitely an advantage.
  • Excellent interpersonal verbal and written communication and presentation skills.
  • Good command of spoken and written English and Chinese (Putonghua and Cantonese) is a must.
  • Self-motivated, independent yet collaborative, organized, able to work under pressure, responsible and attentive to details.

The appointment will be on renewable contract terms with a competitive salary and performance-linked variable pay. Fringe benefits include paid leave, medical, insurance coverage and contribution to MPF. The incumbent will normally work a five-day week.
