The Hong Kong Applied Science and Technology Research Institute (ASTRI) was founded by the Government of the Hong Kong Special Administrative Region in 2000 with the mission of enhancing Hong Kong’s competitiveness through applied research. ASTRI’s core R&D competence in various areas is grouped under five Technology Divisions: Communications Technologies, Artificial Intelligence and Trust Technologies, Advanced Electronic Components and Systems, IoT Sensing and AI Technologies, and Intelligent Perception and Control Technologies.

It is applied across six core areas which are Smart City, Financial Technologies, New Industrialisation and Intelligent Manufacturing, Digital Health, Application Specific Integrated Circuits, and Metaverse.

Over the years, ASTRI has nurtured a pool of research, I&T talents and received numerous international awards for its pioneering innovations as well as outstanding business and community contributions. ASTRI has transferred about 1,600 technologies to the industries and has been granted close to 1,200 patents in the Mainland, the United States, and other countries.

To support our constant endeavour to position Hong Kong as a world-class smart city and an international hub of innovation and technology, we are seeking qualified professionals to fill the following position(s):

Job Responsibilities:

• Assist R&D director to initiate new projects using computer vision/machine learning technologies etc.
• Lead the project team to design, implement, test and deploy solutions using latest technologies.
• Meet with customers to understand their business needs and propose technical solutions.
• Mentor team members on software and algorithm development.
• Software project development and planning.
• Develop deep learning models for smart city and fintech applications.
• Develop data analytics systems.
• Machine learning models training.
• Data collection and cleaning.
• Front-end and back-end development.
• Perform ad-hoc duties as assigned.

Job Requirements:

• PhD holder or Master’s degree in Computer Science, Electronic Engineering, Information Engineering, Mathematics or relevant disciplines with minimum 3 years of related experiences. Candidates with less experience may also be considered.
• Domain knowledge in machine learning model development for financial applications.
• Expertise in building distributed system/enterprise/web/cloud applications with track record.
• Proficiency in one or more of the following technologies: Java/Scala/python, SQL/NoSQL database, Play framework.
• Solid development experience in image processing, computer vision and machine learning.
• Familiar with machine learning algorithms on computer vision, OCR related development, federated learning, natural language processing and image processing applications will be a strong plus.
• Familiar with algorithm development with C/C++ on Windows and Linux platform is a plus.
• Skilled in C/ C++ coding, parallel computing such as OpenMP and GPU programming such as CUDA.
• Experience in systems analysis, including defining technical requirements and performing high level design for complex solutions is a plus.
• Experience with engineering tools such as bug tracking and source code control systems is a plus.
• Development experience with Agile Methodology.
• Project management and planning experience.
• Engineering management experience is a plus.
• Knowledge of software development architecture.
• Experience in using tools and environment for developing AI and deep learning models
• Knowledge on SLM, LVLM, LLM, etc.
• Knowledge in cryptography is a plus
• Strong communication skills, ability to communicate effectively and manage relationships with stakeholders coming from both technical and non-technical backgrounds.
• Fluent in English, good written and oral communications skills; strong team spirit and interpersonal skills.

The appointment will be on renewable contract terms with a competitive salary and performance-linked gratuity. Fringe benefits include paid leave, medical and dental benefits, insurance coverage and contribution to MPF. The incumbent will normally work a five-day week.
