Associate Principal Engineer/Lead Engineer/Engineer, Software Architect

The Hong Kong Applied Science and Technology Research Institute (ASTRI) was founded by the Government of the Hong Kong Special Administrative Region in 2000 with the mission of enhancing Hong Kong’s competitiveness through applied research. ASTRI’s core R&D competence in various areas is grouped under four Technology Divisions: Communications Technologies, Trust and AI Technologies, Integrated Circuits and Systems, and IoT Sensing and AI Technologies.

It is applied across six core areas which are Smart City, Financial Technologies, New Industrialisation and Intelligent Manufacturing, Digital Health, Application Specific Integrated Circuits, and Metaverse.

Over the years, ASTRI has nurtured a pool of research, I&T talents and received numerous international awards for its pioneering innovations as well as outstanding business and community contributions. To date, ASTRI has transferred almost 1400 technologies to the industries and been granted more than 1000 patents in the Mainland, the US, and other countries.

To support our constant endeavour to position Hong Kong as a world-class smart city and an international hub of innovation and technology, we are seeking qualified professionals to fill the following position(s):

Job Responsibilities:

• Perform System and Software Architecture design, AI & Big Data Application development, testing strategy & DevOps consultation with micro-services/container/k8s/serverless infrastructure.
• Support Solution Architect to implement customer enterprise solution.
• Lead research of advanced technology, software development tools and practices.

Job Requirements:

• Master’s degree in computer science, Electronic Engineering or relevant disciplines with a minimum of 5 years of related experience. Candidates with fewer experience will be considered as Senior Engineer or Engineer.
• Software architecture design experience under micro-services/container/k8s/serverless environment, experience in implementing data warehouse/data lake/big data solution is good plus.
• Hands-on coding experience in coding languages e.g., Java or C++, or Python or Node.js.
• Experience in Big Data technologies and related open-source packages such as Kafka, Hadoop, Flink, Spark, Kappa, etc
• Proficient in Design Model Methodology
• Working knowledge on Cloud Computing technologies, experience in designing and building solutions on a cloud platform is preferred.
• Familiarity with Linux and/or Windows architecture and tools
• Understanding of key DevOps concepts and tools (automation, CICD, configuration management, serverless architecture)
• Understanding with key web, networking, storage, security protocols (HTTP(S), TCP/IP, DNS, SSL/TLS, AD/LDAP, NFS, SAN, NAS, etc.)
• Systematic thinking capability is required.
• Good command of both written/spoken English and/or Chinese

The appointment will be on renewable contract terms with a competitive salary and performance-linked variable pay. Fringe benefits include paid leave, medical, insurance coverage and contribution to MPF. The incumbent will normally work a five-day week.
