The Hong Kong Applied Science and Technology Research Institute (ASTRI) was founded by the Government of the Hong Kong Special Administrative Region in 2000 with the mission of enhancing Hong Kong’s competitiveness through applied research. ASTRI’s core R&D competence in various areas is grouped under five Technology Divisions: Communications Technologies, Artificial Intelligence and Trust Technologies, Advanced Electronic Components and Systems, IoT Sensing and AI Technologies, and Innovative Mind.
It is applied across six core areas which are Smart City, Financial Technologies, New Industrialisation and Intelligent Manufacturing, Digital Health, Application Specific Integrated Circuits, and Metaverse.
Over the years, ASTRI has nurtured a pool of research, I&T talents and received numerous international awards for its pioneering innovations as well as outstanding business and community contributions. To date, ASTRI has transferred almost 1,500 technologies to the industries and been granted more than 1,100 patents in the Mainland, the US, and other countries.
To support our constant endeavour to position Hong Kong as a world-class smart city and an international hub of innovation and technology, we are seeking qualified professionals to fill the following position(s):
Job Responsibilities:
- Implement and experiment with cutting-edge NLP, NLU, and NLG techniques to support various AI applications.
- Fine-tune and optimize large language models for specific use cases.
- Collect and process large-scale datasets for training different models. Apply data augmentation techniques and explore strategies to handle complex data types and distributions.
- Collaborate with software engineers to integrate machine learning models into production systems, ensuring scalability, reliability, and performance.
- Conduct research and stay up-to-date with the latest advancements in NLP, generative AI, including LLMs, GPTs, GANs (Generative Adversarial Networks), and other related techniques.
- Evaluate new techniques and make technical recommendations.
- Perform ad hoc duties as assigned.
Job Requirements:
- Master's degree or above in Computer Science, Artificial Intelligence, Engineering, Mathematics, or relevant disciplines with a minimum of 3 years of related experience. Candidates with less experience may also be considered.
- Strong programming skills in Python and Experience with at least one machine learning framework (TensorFlow, PyTorch).
- Hands on experience in building machine learning models.
- Hands on experience in NLP, NER, Information Extraction, etc.
- Experience with deep learning, generative AI (transformer, BERT, GPT, etc.) is preferred.
- Experience with LLM (Llama, QianWen, etc.) and model serving is preferred.
- Strong team spirit and interpersonal skills.
- Self-motivated and well organized with can-do attitude.
- Proficiency in written and spoken English and Chinese (Putonghua and/or Cantonese).

The appointment will be on renewable contract terms with a competitive salary and performance-linked variable pay. Fringe benefits include paid leave, medical, insurance coverage and contribution to MPF. The incumbent will normally work a five-day week.
