The Hong Kong Applied Science and Technology Research Institute (ASTRI) was founded by the Government of the Hong Kong Special Administrative Region in 2000 with the mission of enhancing Hong Kong’s competitiveness through applied research. ASTRI’s core R&D competence in various areas is grouped under four Technology Divisions: Communications Technologies, Trust and AI Technologies, Integrated Circuits and Systems, and IoT Sensing and AI Technologies.
It is applied across six core areas which are Smart City, Financial Technologies, New Industrialisation and Intelligent Manufacturing, Digital Health, Application Specific Integrated Circuits, and Metaverse.
Over the years, ASTRI has nurtured a pool of research, I&T talents and received numerous international awards for its pioneering innovations as well as outstanding business and community contributions. To date, ASTRI has transferred almost 1400 technologies to the industries and been granted more than 1000 patents in the Mainland, the US, and other countries.
To support our constant endeavour to position Hong Kong as a world-class smart city and an international hub of innovation and technology, we are seeking qualified professionals to fill the following position(s):
Job Responsibilities:
- Conduct research and development on mechanical hardware design and development, including smart construction systems, robotic systems, IoT devices, and mechanical design and fabrication.
- Design and develop hardware components, such as casings, mountings, and product designs, using cutting-edge IoT techniques.
- Assemble prototypes based on the design specifications and support in-house verification and on-site validation processes.
- Manage the workshop, ensuring the availability of necessary tools and parts for project development and testing.
- Stay up-to-date with the latest advancements in technology and contribute to the development of innovative solutions, generating new patents and intellectual property.
- Participate in frequent outdoor field operations, providing technical support and troubleshooting assistance as required.
- Take ownership of project management activities, including proposal development, delivering project results, maintaining effective communication with clients, preparing tender documents, and performing administrative tasks.
Job Requirements:
- Be Innovative and dare to try.
- Bachelor degree or above in Automation/Computer/Building Services Engineering/Mechanical Engineering, or related disciplines.
- 2+ years of experiences in construction and/or robotics related project.
- Practical on-site experience in construction and/or mechanical design-related projects.
- Proficiency in utilizing IoT techniques for product design and development such as Unity, SolidWorks, AutoCAD and/or other design software.
- Experience in assembling prototypes based on architectural designs and conducting in-house verification and on-site validation.
- Effective management skills to oversee workshop activities, ensuring the availability of tools and parts.
- Proven ability to stay updated with emerging technologies, contributing to the development of new patents and intellectual property.
- Willingness to participate in frequent outdoor field operations, providing technical support as needed.
- Strong understanding of safety protocols and regulations related to on-site work.
- Excellent project management skills, including proposal development, delivering project results, maintaining client communication, preparing tender documents, and performing administrative tasks.
- Good command of both written/spoken English and/or Chinese.

The appointment will be on renewable contract terms with a competitive salary and performance-linked variable pay. Fringe benefits include paid leave, medical, insurance coverage and contribution to MPF. The incumbent will normally work a five-day week.
