Lead Engineer, Smart Connectivity (Front-end Engineer)

The Hong Kong Applied Science and Technology Research Institute (ASTRI) was founded by the Government of the Hong Kong Special Administrative Region in 2000 with the mission of enhancing Hong Kong’s competitiveness through applied research. ASTRI’s core R&D competence in various areas is grouped under four Technology Divisions: Communications Technologies, Trust and AI Technologies, Integrated Circuits and Systems, and IoT Sensing and AI Technologies.

It is applied across six core areas which are Smart City, Financial Technologies, New Industrialisation and Intelligent Manufacturing, Digital Health, Application Specific Integrated Circuits, and Metaverse.

Over the years, ASTRI has nurtured a pool of research, I&T talents and received numerous international awards for its pioneering innovations as well as outstanding business and community contributions. To date, ASTRI has transferred almost 1400 technologies to the industries and been granted more than 1000 patents in the Mainland, the US, and other countries.

To support our constant endeavour to position Hong Kong as a world-class smart city and an international hub of innovation and technology, we are seeking qualified professionals to fill the following position(s):

Job Responsibilities:

• Design UX and UI design for Responsive Web and Mobile application (iOS & Android).

• Gathering and evaluating user requirements, in collaboration with project coordinators and engineers.

• Illustrating design ideas using wireframes, storyboards, process flows, user flows, prototyping, mock-ups and/or sitemaps.

• Take charge of the technical planning, design, development, and optimization of the front-end for the project.

• Enhance the execution and rendering performance of front-end code to prevent page freezing during intense update frequencies.

• Stay up-to-date design trends and assist with implementation of design innovations.
• Refine existing systems by continuously optimizing code readability, maintainability, and scalability, paying close attention to module division, technical processes, implementation methods, and more.

Job Requirements:

• Possess a Bachelor's degree or higher from a reputable institution and more than 3 years’ experience in front-end and UI work.
• Proficient in front-end technologies like HTML5, CSS3, and JavaScript.
• Thorough understanding of MVVM and adept at utilizing frameworks like Vue.
• Strong engineering skills and a focus on improving efficiency.
• Excellent problem-solving abilities and the capability to identify issues.
• Experience in smart city visualization and web 3.0 projects.
• Familiar with front-end visualization related development experience is preferred, WebGL, Canvas, etc.
• Know a backend language, node.js, python, java, go, etc.
• Know a design software and technologies (e.g. Photoshop, Illustrator, Sketch, Figma, etc...)
• Good command of both written and spoken English and Chinese/ Cantonese.
• Enthusiasm for technology and a drive for excellence.

The appointment will be on renewable contract terms with a competitive salary and performance-linked variable pay. Fringe benefits include paid leave, medical, insurance coverage and contribution to MPF. The incumbent will normally work a five-day week.
